What is the biopsy technique performed with wire marking in the breast?

It is the process of pre-operative marking and removal of the tissue that is not palpable in the breast examination, cannot be detected, but is suspicious after imaging methods and is decided to be removed.

One of the marking methods is wire placement under the guidance of mammography, ultrasound or MRI. The process is performed in the radiology department and the patient is taken to the operating room from there. This process is done on the same day with the surgery. After local anesthesia is applied, a marking needle with a thin wire is placed in the suspicious area under imaging guidance. Since the end of the wire is in the form of a hook, it attaches to the tissue.

The breast surgeon removes the suspicious formation and the tissue we call specimen mammography is filmed by sending the tissue to the film during the operation to ensure that the correct area is removed. In this film, the surgeon is informed by being examined whether the correct area is removed and the process is completed. Then the tissue is pathologically examined. The surgical process takes an average of 30 minutes and is preferably performed by making the patient light sleep with anesthetic drugs, which we call sedation. It is a daily surgical process.
