In the last 30 years, there have been significant changes in the breast surgery with the spread of breast cancer, increase in early diagnosis, increase in surgical treatment options and individual treatment applications. As a result of this, there was a need for the specialty of the breast surgery, which intensively deals with the breast diseases and surgery. The studies conducted in the West have shown that the results of the patients treated by the surgeons who devote a great deal of their time to the breast surgery are better than the results of the patients treated by other surgeons.

The breast surgery has to give detailed information about the treatment to the patient and their relatives at the time of diagnosis and during the treatment phase and to ensure coordination with other specialties related to the breast diseases by ensuring the patient’s participation in the treatment phase. In the breast cancer, when the breast surgeon sees the patient for the first time, he determines the extent of the disease, applies the staging methods, he gives information about the treatment options, starts the treatment and provides the referral of the patients to the medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and other relevant specialists.
